DEVON CHOW, Ealing Young People's Voice in Youth Parliament
I believe with your vote I can rewrite the story for youths' future, better and fairer

Done for you:

Autumn
: 6 months in post, I am now more focussed on college/uni fees and gym vouchers to students. Arranging a petition accordingly, e.g. discussing with Ealing MPs (got a disappointing reply from David Willetts, the Minister of State for Universities and Science) and students. Meeting with Boris Johnson, Mayor of London in mid-Nov. You like the new "Your interests harmed" section?

Ongoing: I gave a presentation to a Chinese community (CIAC) in August, interviews to Ealing Gazette in March 2010, and to BBC London and BBC Chinese in April 2010 to spread our messages of youth priorities.  I attended regional MYP meetings to lobby for support for delivering my manifesto.

Let us youths determine our future now, fight together for

School curriculum (gym subsidy)
Student debt (tuition fees/tax holiday)

The template-type of response of 1 May by David Cameron's assistant is disappointing, not an answer at all to my questions. Anyway here it is.

"I am writing on behalf of David Cameron to thank you very much for contacting us during this important election campaign. David appreciates all the feedback he receives, so it is good of you to have taken the time and trouble to get in touch and to let us have your thoughts.

In a few days time, you’ll get to choose a new government. And as we enter the final week of this election campaign, one thing is certain: people are clearly desperate for change – change only David Cameron and the Conservatives can guarantee. A vote for Labour or the Lib Dems could leave us stuck with Gordon Brown as Prime Minister, and the uncertainty of a hung Parliament which could kill the recovery. So this weekend David has published a contract, between you and us, to set out certain specific things we are committed to do.

We began this election campaign by inviting everyone to join the government of Britain – we’re all in this together, and we’ve got to stop pretending that government is the answer to every problem. So in this campaign we’ve talked about the new part we hope people will play in making the country better, in building the Big Society.

Now, at the end of the campaign, we are setting out our side of the bargain – what we will do if we win the election. We are publishing a contract with the voters, which commits us to do certain specific things in exchange for your vote. And we are saying clearly in this contract, if we don’t do those things, if we don’t deliver our side of the bargain, vote us out in five years time.

The contract outlines clear commitments: to change our political system to make it more accountable, open and local; change the economy to get it moving; and help build a Big Society, where everyone plays a part in helping to mend our broken society. I hope you will feel able to read it and – if we win the election – use it to hold us to account.

We all know that with Labour in charge our country is heading in completely the wrong direction. That is why there is a clear choice at this election between five more years of Gordon Brown’s tired government making things worse, or David Cameron and the Conservatives, with the energy, leadership and values to get the country moving.

I do hope you’ll join us on Thursday. The more people join, the stronger the force for change will be. And together, we can make this the year for change, to give our communities – and our country – great hope for the future.

Yours sincerely,

James

Office of David Cameron"
